Welcome to Piedmont Play School
A Joyful start to a Lifelong Love of Learning
Our Philosophy
At Piedmont Play School (PPS), we believe children learn best through play, exploration, and joyful interaction with their environment.
Our curriculum blends art, music, science, cooking, building, sensory exploration, pretend play, and outdoor adventures. Activities are open-ended and hands-on, encouraging curiosity, imagination, and confidence while supporting social and emotional growth.
We celebrate holidays, welcome special visitors, and take field trips that connect classroom learning to the wider world. Above all, we value creativity as a process rather than a product, nurturing each child’s individuality while fostering a love of learning that lasts well beyond preschool.
Our Program
Piedmont Play School is a cooperative preschool that welcomes children beginning at age 2, with enrollment designed as a two-year experience preparing them for Transitional Kindergarten or Kindergarten. Each class is aimed at 18 students, creating a close-knit environment where every child is known and supported.
Many children join as Bluebirds (our younger group) and continue on as Yellowbirds (our older group), though some families occasionally join for just the Yellowbird year. Each day, 3 teachers and 1 parent volunteer guide the classroom, giving children the benefit of both professional expertise and family involvement.
While these groupings provide structure, Bluebirds and Yellowbirds learn and play together. This mix allows younger children to learn from older classmates, while older children gain confidence by modeling for the younger ones. Teachers also create opportunities for age-appropriate activities tailored to each child’s developmental stage, ensuring every child feels both supported and challenged.
The school year follows the Piedmont Unified School District calendar, running from mid August through early June. Tuition for 2025/26 is $800 per month. The school day runs from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, with extended care offered until 3:00 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, prioritized for Yellowbirds.
Children do not need to be fully toilet trained to enroll, though it is strongly encouraged.
